Sounds From Nowheresville – The Ting Tings

Making this album wasn’t as easy as it sounds but after some time and a location change things started to click Jules says, ‘Every time Katie went up to the booth she was nailing it. The lyrics were happening. The whole weight of our shoulders was lifted. This was enjoyable again. It was being dictated by its own energy again.’

You will find yourself on first listen to ‘Day To Day’ singing the lyrics right back at Katie. This is a song that immediately lifts the spirits and puts a spring in your steps. If you’re anything like me you will start trying to fit into the harmonies, hopefully a little more successfully than myself. ‘Day To Day’ is tinged with American pop nuances, but I’m talking about that good back in the day pop, the one with a video shot featuring ladies frolicking on white sand beaches under the California sun and a man strumming an acoustic guitar – get the picture?

If you want soft unoffending rock, ‘Give It Back’ is just the ticket. To put it simply this album has it all; we get a little pop, a little rock, a little electro and disco, then the song ‘In Your Life’ skirts around the fringes of folk music.

‘One by One’ is that slightly electro track that should be enjoyed with a slow cool nod of the head, just rock it back and forth, it’ll be easy – it’s fairly infectious.

The track ‘Help’ will ensure that Ting Tings have no trouble making it into the top 10 of the album charts,

Did you like ‘Shut Up and Let Me Go’? Yes! Well then you’ll be into ‘Hang It Up’. However, this is just about the only track on the album that sounds like what The Ting Tings have already done before.

If you can’t already tell, I actually love this album, different styles brought together just in time for the lighter days ahead.

Unfortunately you don’t get much of the British flavour that initially made The Ting Tings duo Katie White and Jules De Martino so appealing, but what they have produced with Sounds From Nowheresville is pretty ‘AWESOME’.
