Seye – Mexicana Bounce

NME call him Fela Kuti for the Rinse generation, but even when you get past the tacky props in an unimaginative video, I still don’t see or hear it.

This doesn’t mean that I don’t like ‘Mexicana Bounce’ or Seye, in fact I think Seye is talented. Managing to hold his own when sharing the stage with the UK’s Emeli Sande, singers Lana Del Rey and Paloma Faith means that he must have something to give.

‘Mexicana Bounce’ is in a groove of it’s own, but frankly I don’t hear the ‘Clattering, dramatic Afro-electro soul’ that The Times hear.

Digging a little deeper and exploring the glories of YouTube you can find an alternative video here that gives a more authentic look to voice of the newcomer

I’ve gotten past the Jedward haircut and actually listened to Mexicana and my verdict is that it is perfect for the summer that we never had, a classic pick-me-up track to add to your playlists.
