Various Cruelties

Since forming just under 12-months ago Various Cruelties have played alongside Villagers, The Vaccines, Funeral Party, Fixers, Tribes and at Mumford’s Communion Night. Scheduled to appear later this year at Bestival, this summer has already seen the band play to packed tents at the Isle of Wight and Latitude festivals.

Named after an Ed Ruscha painting of the same name – the Talking Heads famously used one of his paintings for the cover of their Sand in the Vaseline compilation – Various Cruelties is based around Liam O’Donnell, a prodigious talent with the spirit of Kevin Rowland at his most soulful.

Born in London to a Scottish father and an Irish mother (a distant relative of Oscar Wilde) he spent his youth singing at Leeds blues parties and squat run pirate radio stations where he discovered the Clash, The Specials, Shuggie Otis, Devendra Banheart and Otis Redding.
