Those Were Fireworks, Thomas Solgaard

Here at The Right Copy, we like unwavering dedication and talent and Thomas Solgaard has that and a little something else too, but we were slightly shocked when he told us ‘I didn’t know that I could sing’.

It’s normal to hear about those who think that they can sing, as X Factor season is upon us, we are more than aware of this, but imagine not knowing you have this talent? ‘Later on when I studied music, my music teacher convinced me that I could actually sing. It gave me the confidence to start writing lyrics, but still I didn’t know I had a unique voice’

This first track on Thomas Solgaard’s EP had us convinced that he can sing. Released at the height of summer this year the EP is entitled ‘Those Were Fireworks’.

You might not believe it either until you hear ‘And Beneath The Pillows’ a beautiful arrangement of the piano and Thomas’ enchanting lyrics that combine to create a track that would be perfect for the soundtrack of a movie blockbuster.

‘And Beneath The Pillows’ is only an introduction to three more tracks that cover some interesting issues, ‘A lot of the characters in my songs try to understand human behaviour. I guess that’s why I’ve written songs about alcoholics and murdererd because they see life very differently to us, and I think it’s interesting to see our reality through others.’

So few people make music for the love of it anymore, but Thomas does, ‘I’m not expecting a record deal from this, the record companies don’t listen to demos or EPs’.

Taking no chances with his intellectual property, Thomas protects his work. ‘In Denmark we have this organisation, you pay an entry fee and then you are a member.’

If you like ‘And Beneath The Pillows’, why not join the campaign on Myspace to bring Thomas to the UK and ‘Like’ hispage on facebook?

    Thomas’ Tips

I’ve noticed many singers try too hard to be unique and it always end up sounding pretentious. The best way to find your own style is to listen to as many different genres as possible and then you will find something you like in every genre and combine those elements either consciously or unconsciously.

the best thing you can do is really just believe in what you do and when you get a ‘no’ from the industry you really just have to get back on the horse and prove how wrong they are.

Get your music out on the street and make people talk. That’s the best way to a record deal really.

Someone once said: ‘As an artist you have nothing to lose. You are already stupid enough to get up on that stage’ and that’s kind of my motivation. ‘You have nothing to lose’
